Salli Richardson
Salli Richardson leads the cast as Jessica “Jesse” Brown. Well known among urban audiences for her roles in “I Am Legend,” “Antwone Fisher,” “Biker Boyz,” “Low Down Dirty Shame,” and “Posse,” Richardson has developed a mainstream following with her current SciFi Channel series “Eureka.”
Nicole Ari Parker
Nicole Ari Parker plays “Tanya Brown,” sister to Jesse and “mother” to Jesse’s son Tariq after Jesse runs off. Best known for playing tough but compassionate attorney “Teri Joseph” in the Showtime series “Soul Food,” which was based on the 1997 film of the same name, Parker brings that same magic to the role of Tanya.
Keith David
Keith David, the Emmy Award-winning film, television and voice actor, plays the role of the Brown family patriarch, Pastor Joe Brown. Best known for his role as Childs in John Carpenter’s “The Thing,” King in Oliver Stone’s “Platoon,” and voicing “Goliath” on the Disney series “Gargoyles,” David is slated to appear in starring and co-starring roles in more than 10 films in 2009 alone.
Michael B Jordan
Michael B Jordan gives a star-making turn as Jesse’s son “Tariq Brown.” The Image-Award nominated actor is known for his work on ABC’s “All My Children.” He received critical acclaim for his portrayal of the hard-shelled, softhearted young urbanite “Wallace” in HBO’s dramatic hit series “The Wire.” Currently, Jordan co-stars in George Lucas’ next film “Red Tails” about the Tuskegee Airmen.
Ernie Hudson
Ernie Hudson adds the role of faithful “Deacon Harold Todd” to his lengthy list of acting credits. Those credits include “Ghostbusters,” HBO’s “Oz,” “The Crow,” and the film that first brought him mainstream recognition “The Hand That Rocks the Cradle.”
Michael Beach
Michael Beach portrays the ambitious assistant minister “Avery Callahan.” This Julliard-trained thespian is known for his work on NBC’s “Third Watch” and “ER,” as well as the films “Waiting to Exhale,” “Lean on Me,” “Soul Food,” and “First Sunday.”
Tasha Smith
Tasha Smith plays the role of the feisty “Angelique Todd.” This multi-talented actress has been seen in Tyler Perry’s “Why Did I Get Married?” as well as "Daddy’s Little Girls.” Smith most recently starred in the Lionsgate underdog sports drama “The Longshots” alongside Ice Cube, and this Fall she co-stars in Universal Studios’ Vince Vaughn-starrer “Couples Retreat.”
Rockmond Dunbar
Rockmond Dunbar plays the role of Amir who befriends Jesse Brown when she returns to Atlanta. Audiences know Dunbar from Showtime’s “Soul Food,” Fox Network’s “Prison Break” and most recently Tyler Perry’s “The Family That Preys.” Dunbar was a producer/director of this film.
